Boost Converter Controller Design Based on Particle Swarm Optimization ( PSO )

This paper proposes a novel optimization technique for the closed-loop controller design of a boost type DC-DC converter based on the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The design of the closedloop control parameters is framed as an optimization task such that the PSO algorithm can identify the controller parameters. An appropriate fitness function is then derived for the required objective and is used in the optimization process. The attributes of the large-signal model of the power converter, together with those of the optimization algorithm, provide excellent static and dynamic characteristics at all operating points. Four simulation results with typical internal and external disturbances show the effectiveness and robustness of the developed closed-loop controller over a wide range of operating conditions.
